Water Conservation Takes Centre Stage: ‘Jal Sanchay Janbhagidari 2.0’ Drives Community Action in Sushasan Tihar

5% Model Emerges as a Practical Solution; Collective Efforts Aim to Tackle Water Crisis

Raipur/Jashpur: Under Sushasan Tihar 2026, a major push has been given to water conservation through community participation across the state. The initiative has placed water harvesting at the core, encouraging people to adopt sustainable practices at the grassroots level.

In Jashpur district’s Khuntitoli Gram Panchayat, villagers, public representatives, and administrative officials came together for collective labour (shramdaan), sending a strong message that water conservation must become a shared responsibility. Alongside cleanliness drives, special emphasis was laid on water management practices.

The highlight of the programme was the implementation of the “Jal Sanchay Janbhagidari 2.0” campaign, particularly the innovative 5% model. Under this model, farmers dedicate about 5% of their farmland to create step-like pits for rainwater harvesting. This simple yet effective technique helps recharge groundwater and ensures water availability for irrigation.

Officials explained the long-term benefits of this model, stating that even small, community-led efforts can significantly address large-scale water challenges. The model is emerging as a cost-effective and practical solution, especially for rural areas facing water scarcity.

Through collective participation, the initiative reinforced that water conservation is not just a government responsibility but a people’s movement. Villagers also pledged to adopt and promote such practices widely.

With similar activities being conducted across the state, Sujashan Tihar is evolving into a platform to transform water conservation into a mass movement—ensuring awareness, participation, and sustainable impact at the village level.
