Holistic Development Will Be Achieved Through Human-Centered Design-Based CSR Plans: Abhishek Singh

Industrialists Participate in CSR–HCD Lens Training

Raipur/ Holistic development can only be achieved through CSR plans designed using a Human-Centered Design (HCD) approach. For the successful implementation of any project, it is essential to assess and understand beneficiary behavior to ensure better outcomes. This was stated by Abhishek Singh, SBC Specialist at UNICEF, while addressing a training program on “CSR Projects in HCD Lens” organized at NIT Raipur. The program was conducted under the aegis of Alliance for Behaviour Change, NIT–BIU, and Think So Platform.

Speaking on behavioral science, he emphasized that it is important to understand what a person does and why they do it. He explained the technical aspects of individual biases and stated that both project designers and beneficiaries are influenced by such biases.

Highlighting the nuances of Human-Centered Design in project planning, he advocated the adoption of frameworks such as the EAST Framework, COM-B Model, and Nudging with MINDSPACE.

During one of the training sessions, CSR officers shared their experiences and discussed how these models could be adapted and integrated into their ongoing projects.

By mutual agreement, it was decided that:

Up to 25% of the upcoming CSR budget would be allocated to HCD-related projects.

CSR professionals would be specially trained in HCD approaches.

Quarterly trainings and action plan development sessions would be conducted.

Companies would organize research and study initiatives based on behavioral insights.
