BMS Takes Strong Stand Over Vedanta Plant Blast; Demands ₹1 Crore Compensation for Victims

Calls for High-Level Probe, Permanent Jobs for Families, and Strict Action Against Those Responsible

Raipur / The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has taken a strong stance following the devastating boiler explosion at the Vedanta Group’s power plant in Singhatrai, Sakti district of Chhattisgarh. The organisation termed the incident not merely an accident, but a result of gross negligence and serious violations of safety norms by the management.

Issuing a press note, BMS expressed deep grief over the death of 19 workers and demanded a high-level investigation into the incident.

Demand for Higher Compensation and Employment

  • BMS stated that the compensation announced by the company is inadequate.
  • It demanded at least ₹1 crore compensation for each deceased worker’s family.
  • The organisation also insisted that the company should bear the full cost of treatment for the injured and provide proper insurance benefits.
  • Additionally, it called for a written guarantee of permanent employment for one member of each affected family.

Demand for Strict Action Against the Guilty

  • The union has demanded both a magisterial and technical investigation into the incident.
  • Experts from the factory and boiler departments should conduct a detailed probe.
  • BMS also called for strict legal action, including charges of culpable homicide, against officials found negligent.

Call for Statewide Safety Audit

BMS has urged the government to conduct an immediate safety audit of all private industries in Chhattisgarh to prevent such incidents in the future.
The union further demanded that licenses of companies violating safety norms be cancelled.

Concern Over Migrant and Contract Workers’ Safety

BMS highlighted that most of the affected workers were migrant and contractual labourers, whose safety is often neglected by companies.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to take strong action to protect workers’ rights and safety.

BMS expressed Condolence

The union offered prayers for the departed souls and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families.

BMS Prant Mahamantri Dinesh Pandey said that the incident once again raises serious concerns about industrial safety standards, where rapid development continues to overshadow the fundamental issue of workers’ safety.
