Raipur | With the objective of strengthening the health and nutrition of pregnant women and newborns, the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) being implemented by the Government of India is emerging as a strong and effective initiative towards ensuring safe motherhood in the state. Under the scheme, financial assistance is provided to women during pregnancy, enabling them to access nutritious food, essential health check-ups, and proper medical care.
Beneficiaries of the scheme include Mrs. Sanju Tiwari, a resident of Ward No. 07 in Kabirdham district, and Mrs. Mukeshwari Sahu from Berlakala village in Bemetara district. Mrs. Sanju Tiwari received ₹5,000 in three installments on the birth of her first child. Additionally, upon the birth of her second child—a girl—she received an additional ₹6,000. She stated that the financial assistance was utilized for purchasing milk, fruits, nutritious food, and meeting healthcare-related needs, which proved highly beneficial during her pregnancy.
Similarly, Mrs. Mukeshwari Sahu, who belongs to a modest farming family in Bemetara district, learned about the scheme during her first pregnancy through an Anganwadi worker and a Mitanin (community health worker). Based on eligibility, she received ₹5,000 in timely installments, which helped her ensure proper nutrition and undergo necessary medical examinations. Today, both she and her child are completely healthy.
The beneficiary women described the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana as a scheme that provides financial support, confidence, and mental reassurance to pregnant women. The scheme is not only strengthening maternal and child health but is also playing a significant role in promoting safe motherhood and encouraging the birth of girl children.
