Raipur / Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai released the documentary “Untold Story of Late Rajni Dattatreya Upasane” at the Chief Minister’s Residence Office. The film is based on the life of Raipur’s first woman MLA, the late Smt. Rajni Dattatreya Upasane.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister remembered her contributions in the fields of social service, politics, and public welfare. He said that her life was a symbol of struggle, dedication, and inspiration. From defending democracy during the difficult period of the Emergency to contributing to the development of Raipur and the upliftment of women and marginalized communities—her work will continue to inspire generations.
The Chief Minister expressed that this documentary will serve as a powerful medium to introduce future generations to her personality and achievements. Sachchidanand Upasane and other family members were present at the release event.
Who Was Late Smt. Rajni Dattatreya Upasane?
She was the first woman MLA of the state capital, Raipur. Rajni Tai entered the Legislative Assembly in 1978 after defeating a senior Congress leader. She was a prominent worker of the Jana Sangh. There are four son of her namely Girish Upasne, Jagdish Upasne,Sachidanad Upasne and Hemant Upasne. She passed away on 27 August 2025 at the age of 93.
A Fearless Reply During the Emergency
A well-known incident from the Emergency period highlights Rajni Tai’s uncompromising character. When the then Collector of Raipur arrived to seal her house, he accused her of being involved in anti-national activities and warned that she could be jailed. In response, Rajni Tai firmly replied, “My sons are already in jail. You may take me too—it makes no difference.”
It is said that senior leaders of the Sangh used to stay at her house in Tatya Para, Raipur, where important strategies were planned.
