Chhattisgarh to Host the First Khelo India Tribal Games–2026; State to Gain National Recognition: Chief Minister Sai

Hosting the first Khelo India Tribal Games–2026 will be a matter of pride and honour for the entire state of Chhattisgarh, said Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai during his meeting with Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi. The meeting included detailed discussions on various aspects related to the successful organisation of the proposed games.

Chief Minister Sai expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership and to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, for its continued efforts in promoting sports across the country. He said that through the Khelo India Tribal Games, Chhattisgarh’s rich tribal traditions and talented athletes will get a national platform, further strengthening the state’s identity.

The Chief Minister informed that under the Tribal Games, competitions in seven major sports—Athletics, Archery, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Hockey, Football and Swimming—will be organised, while two sports will be showcased as demonstration events. As per the proposed plan, Wrestling, Archery and Weightlifting events will be held in the Surguja division, Hockey, Football and Swimming in Raipur, and Athletics competitions in Bilaspur. The inaugural ceremony of the Khelo India Tribal Games–2026 is proposed to be held in Raipur on 14 February 2026.

Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya appreciated the efforts of the Chhattisgarh government and said that tribal youth possess immense sporting talent. He noted that such events will create new enthusiasm and opportunities for them, and assured full cooperation from the central government for the successful conduct of the games.

Chief Minister Sai expressed confidence that the Khelo India Tribal Games will provide athletes from tribal regions opportunities to progress at national and international levels, and will help establish Chhattisgarh as an emerging sporting power in the country.
