Jashpur Collector Rohit Vyas Emerges as a Living Example of the Initiative’s Success
Jashpur | Sometimes, the true success of a programme is not reflected in speeches or statistics, but in a simple question asked at home. In Jashpur district, the initiative “Aaj Kya Seekha ? (What Did You Learn Today ?) ” has demonstrated this power, bringing positive change in the behaviour of children, parents, and the administration alike.
This change, remarkably, began at the Jashpur Collector’s own home. Deeply impressed by the initiative, Collector Rohit Vyas decided to adopt it personally and set an example. He shared that every day, when his daughter returns from school, he asks her just one question:
“Aaj Kya Seekha ?”
The impact of this single question was immediate and meaningful. His daughter began sharing not only what she studied, but also details of school activities, discussions, and experiences with enthusiasm. Over time, this simple exchange evolved into a powerful medium for learning, understanding, and building self-confidence.
From Policy to Practice: The Collector’s Strategy
Collector Rohit Vyas explained that the initiative, supported by UNICEF and the Alliance for Behaviour Change, is not merely a question, but a strategy for strengthening parent–child communication.
He described it as a decisive behaviour-change model that connects parents more closely with their children’s education, encourages children to express themselves freely, and helps build a strong education ecosystem in villages.
According to him, when dialogue changes at home, visible change follows in schools and society.
Experience Shared at Workshop, Widely Appreciated
Collector Vyas shared this experience while addressing the “Samvad–Sanskar” workshop as the chief guest. The workshop was organised jointly by the district administration, UNICEF, the Alliance for Behaviour Change, Sarvhitam, and Agricon.
His remarks were met with enthusiastic applause from those present on the dais, including DIG Dr. Lal Ummed Singh, teachers, Jai Ho volunteers, and officials. This response clearly indicated that the initiative has moved beyond paperwork and is resonating with people at a personal level.
Guiding the Future Through Success
Encouraged by the impact, the Collector urged Manish Singh, State Nodal In-charge of the Alliance for Behaviour Change and Chairman of Sarvhitam, to develop more such innovations that directly influence family and community behaviour. He also expressed gratitude for the efforts made by district officials under the Samagra Shiksha project.
On the occasion, Manish Singh and Yogesh Purohit, State Coordinator of Agricon, thanked the Collector for personally adopting and promoting the initiative.
Impact Set to Reach Every Village
The influence of “Aaj Kya Seekha ? ” has now extended beyond the district level. Volunteers are planning to take the initiative to villages across Jashpur. As a result, a positive environment around education is taking shape—one where learning is no longer just the school’s responsibility, but a shared effort of the entire family.
This story stands as proof that when parents themselves become role models in education, a programme turns into a movement—and a simple question becomes the beginning of lasting change.
