  • Detailed Discussion on ‘Just Transition’ in Coal Regions
  • Emphasis on Concrete Steps for Renewable Energy Expansion in the State

Raipur / At the Chief Minister’s residence in Raipur, researchers from the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and Swaniti Initiative paid a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. During the meeting, the Chief Minister released their detailed study report titled “Mapping India’s State-Level Energy Transition: Chhattisgarh.”

Chief Minister Sai had an in-depth discussion with the researchers on the Chhattisgarh government’s strategies for the expansion of renewable energy, energy security, and sustainable development in the state. He stated that the government is continuously working to promote innovations related to solar energy, green hydrogen, and energy efficiency.

The researchers presented to the Chief Minister a comprehensive index based on the “Energy Transition Vulnerability” of India’s 52 coal-producing districts, highlighting the need for a “Just Transition”—that is, a transition that is economically, socially, and environmentally fair in traditional coal-dependent regions. They explained that this index is an important indicator of future challenges, employment structures, and alternative livelihood opportunities in older coal-mining areas.

On this occasion, Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Bodh Kumar Singh and Energy Department Secretary Hit Yadav were also present.
